New License: Real Estate Broker

To become a licensed Broker in Illinois, the IDFPR requires:
Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Pre-License Course: Completion of 75 Hours of approved education (60 hours Topics + 15 hours Interactive).
Examination: Pass the Illinois Real Estate Broker Exam (PSI).
Sponsorship: You must be sponsored by a Managing Broker to activate your license.

First Renewal: 45-Hour Post-License
Brokers renewing for the first time must complete 45 hours of Post-License education before their first expiration date (typically April 30th of even years).
Transactional Issues: 15 Hours
Applied Brokerage Principles: 15 Hours
Risk Management/Discipline: 15 Hours (Includes Sexual Harassment Training)

Upgrade: Managing Broker
To upgrade your license to Managing Broker status, you need:
Experience: Must have been licensed as a Broker for 2 of the last 3 years.
Education: Completion of 45 Hours of Managing Broker Pre-License education.
Exam: Pass the state Managing Broker licensing exam.

Residential Leasing Agent
Perfect for those focusing exclusively on residential rentals and property management support.
Coursework: Complete a 15-hour state-approved program.
Exam: Pass the Residential Leasing Agent exam within 120 days of beginning activity.
Scope: Limited to leasing and renting residential real property.

Continuing Education (CE) & Renewals
Standard Broker Renewal Requirements (Every 2 Years):
12 Total Hours: 4 Hours Core + 8 Hours Electives.
Mandatory: 1 Hour of Sexual Harassment Prevention Training is required for ALL renewals.
Deadline: Licenses expire April 30th of even-numbered years.
